Wharf to Woolshed Long Row
The Wharf to Woolshed Long Row, a captivating 36-kilometer upstream rowing expedition from Renmark to the Woolshed Brewery at Wilkadene, has established itself as an iconic event since its inception in 2017. The brainchild of local rower Anna Petersen, in collaboration with fellow rowers from Mildura, this event made its debut with 42 passionate rowers in its inaugural year.
What sets this event apart is its relaxed and leisurely atmosphere, offering participants the unique opportunity to meander along the iconic River Murray. Along this picturesque route, rowers are treated to the sight of ancient 500-year-old gum trees, the awe-inspiring majesty of cliffs that line the riverbanks, and the enchanting birdlife that calls this pristine environment home. As time has unfolded, the Long Row has blossomed into an event of considerable magnitude. In its most recent iteration, it attracted a gathering of 202 rowers, accompanied by an enthusiastic contingent of supporters hailing from not just South Australia but also New South Wales, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory, and the Star Boat Club from Wellington, New Zealand.
The event’s resounding success was recently acknowledged through its prestigious recognition as the 2022 Event of the Year by the Renmark Paringa Council. Furthermore, it received a commendation from the esteemed Governor of South Australia, the Honourable Francis Adamson AC. These accolades underscore the enduring appeal and significance of the Long Row, a celebration of rowing, nature’s beauty, and shared camaraderie along the iconic Murray River.

St Francis of Assisi Rowing Program
In the year 2021, an exciting and transformative partnership was forged between the Renmark Rowing Club and St. Francis of Assisi College in Renmark. The primary aim was to inspire and guide students in the art of rowing, nurturing their skills with the ultimate goal of participating in state regattas. This groundbreaking initiative commenced with 74 enthusiastic students participating in a comprehensive come and try program that spanned over two terms. From this initial cohort, 14 dedicated individuals emerged as active rowers, eagerly embarking on their competitive journey.
As each year unfolds, a fresh group of students has the privilege of immersing themselves in this exceptional program, while the established active rowers continue to grow and refine their expertise. This dynamic partnership between the Renmark Rowing Club and St. Francis of Assisi College stands as a testament to their commitment to fostering the sport of rowing in the country.
It is worth noting that this program, the only one of its kind in South Australia, is a source of immense pride for both partners. Together, they are shaping the future of rowing and empowering young talents to reach their full potential, creating a legacy that resonates far beyond the rivers edge.
